 Gantt Chart Discussion

The Gantt chart has undergone several iterations in the duration of this project.  Most notable of said changes was attributed to the acquiring of a research opportunity with Professor Bayandor, and the C.R.A.S.H. lab.  The first Gantt Chart reflectected the original project designation of an automatic aquarium water changer as per MAE 451. One of the most crucial aspects upon receiving both the research project as well as the approval  was balancing both the deliverables of the research in accordance with Dr. Matta, and the deliverables of the MAE 494 course in accordance with Dr. John Hall, respectively. After discussing the logistics of taking over the research project with Dr. Bayandor, he asked to view the deliverables of the course and suggested requesting extensions to the deadlines of several of the major deliverables.  Dr. Bayandor’s utmost priority was that valuable research be conducted but directly following the course requirements being fully satiated.

The second iteration of the Gantt chart involved an adjustment to the deadlines of several of the major course deliverables, including the Project Specifications Report, the Prototype Drawings, and the Design Review Report,  being extended by two weeks for each. Since the manufacturing of the prototype will be done primarily in 3D printing, the lower time to manufacture expected allowed for an increase in the amount of time spent on the overall design.  Throughout the course of the design project the Gantt Chart was consistently edited to reflect the actual time each task actually acquired. The task timeline was shortened for the tasks which took less time than anticipated to complete, usually the ones which harbored uncertainty and received  more time allocation, and elongated for those tasks which incurred difficulty in completing. For example, currently the acquisition of a testing facility, the UB pool, is proving problematic due to the interaction and correspondence required with the UB Aquatics Director and the corresponding task bar within the Gantt chart will be elongated accordingly upon successful completion.
